Tim and Eric's Awesomecon in San Diego 7/26/08

So yesterday Panda, Schleppy and myself made our ways down to San Diego, but not for the giant comic con that the other 200,000 some people were there to see. No we were heading for a much smaller, more casual con right near by. With maybe 200 people there at any given point.

derWe left Hollywood bright in the morning at 10am, after already losing one of our compatriots to the evil monster of sleep. (SarahB called at 9:37 and was all
'I just woke up, go on without me' and I was all 'we leave no man behind' and then she's like
'Dude, I'm a goner save yourselves' and then I'm all
'no way man, two man enter one man leave' and she's gets all
'That doesn't even make and sense' and I come back with
'Turtle Dove, Turtle dove, let me count the shillelagh'

then we hung up)

So we set forth and make some what decent time pulling in to San Diego maybe a hour after the event started at noon. We then struggle for the next hour to even visualize the concept of parking. I say 'Ohm' a lot, Schleppy tries visualize running over a multitude of people dressed as Harlequin and Panda pretends to visualize consciousness tucked away and curled up in a little ball in the back seat.

We find refuge for the car at a local mall, that has apparently been over looked at from the con goer's and make our way to the park.

An amusing side note, as we're passing by comic con to the park I walk by some guy that gives me a nod and "hey dude" and by the time we've a block away from each other I realize it was Jason Mewes.

I've had this gnawing feeling in the back of my gut for days now that this is the worst idea I've ever had, that either people will think I'm not me, Tim and Eric will pull me in to some embarrassing hi jink or just some other amazing horror will over take me. It's just one of those things, it's reverse superstition, if you foresee every possible disaster it couldn't possibly happen... or at least you'll be expecting it. It's very code of the samurai.

We turn the final corner and far off in the distance the park is hidden. A girl on a bike taxi calls out 'Roz they're waiting for you' in a standard British accent. We start up the side walk, and people lock eyes with me an smile. This doesn't make me more comfortable right away. Now I'm picturing being lifted up and tossed in to the harbor near by... oh god my laptops in my bag put me down!

And then everything opens up. There is a field ahead with 100's of people sprawled out and off to far end, on a sloop is Tim and Eric with a line of people. Eric is saying something in to a mic, but I can't hear because some one says "Raz" then another, then someone shots it and then the crowd is clapping and I hear Eric say something about Raz as well. A bunch of people immediately gather round for pictures or autographs (thank god I've practiced one, code of the Samurai you know). I make my way over to Tim ad Eric, say hello shake hands, pose for pictures with Eric wearing the one and only, one of a kind Raz shirt from the show.

Panda and Schleppy chill out on the grass as wave two of people come up for pictures or autographs. I have these little zine portfolio's I've made that I only remember toward the end to hand out. but you can print one out and fold it using the steps provided in my zine tutorial. (some adjustments may need to be made since this is a jpeg and usually I print straight from photoshop.)

I met a lot of people, ran in to a few people I knew from UCB, which was awesome, we walked around the little seaside village, checked out this cool hat store, tried on a Jaxon Top hat which two cute asian girls told me was hot and then moseyed off.

We walked around in front of the ComicCon to look at all the people dressed up. Honestly I was expecting more, but I suppose they were inside where they could truly be worshiped and marveled at and not drooled over from the common folk. I think the best costume I saw was Rouge from the Xmen, who I saw jump in to a shady sedan with tinted windows.

After all the madness we headed back toward the car and the mall, got some eats and I tried to connected to stickam for the 6pm Failpire. However inspite of my ability to connect to the internet, I couldn't go live on stickam coming up time and time again with a "Cannot connect to server error" So we gave up, packed up and headed back to LA with plans to return next year for comic con itself and a 3 day weekend of madness.
Dear Comic Con - I will return. you shall be my bitch, yo.

BTW - if you're out there from Awesomecon and you've got pics hit me up with a link, or create an account here and upload them! I'd love to see em.
